Before I mentioned creatures like snails and worms, who are taking care of the body so that it would rise up to a new life. But there is an animal who is looking after soul’s issues when it leaves the body. It’s the bees.
Bees are often mentioned in Lithuanian and world’s mythology. She is mentioned as a mediator between this and the other world. I already knew this, but I was still curious, how it is mediating.
In Egyptian mythology, bees come from the Sun God Ra tears. Naturally, a question came up- why did the Sun cry? Did it cry from sadness or joy? I pondered on this, until I found the meaning in symbols. The eye symbol of the Sun’s God Ra is the equivalent of that part of the brain, where the pineal gland is. In other words, this eye is symbolising the very pineal gland itself or the unity of five senses. And bees came precisely from the tears of this eye. Here the puzzle became complete, when I remembered the moment from Lithuanian mythology and ancestors tales/memoirs- that in the moment of a person’s death, a bee flies out from his nose. Many even identify a soul with this animal.
Its likely that honey is falling to earth from sky and becomes the morning dew. And then bees collect these light, pearl-like, aromatic drops from blossoms.
In the painting is a bee, who is picking the nectar, the essence of a spirit- the information about life’s experience, which will soon be delivered to the other side in the form of a pineal gland, which will be returned to the Sun, to the Source. This way the soul returns home to spend the winter.
In the range of my paintings I noticed a pleasant entanglement of the theme of death as transmutation. And from all the information that comes along the creation process, I got an impression that the death process is just a beautiful gate.
