Returning Home

Last painting was about Perkūnas, so i wanted the next one to be about Vėlinas and his underworld. I am interested in this character from mythology and the opposition of those two heroes seems artificially induced. And i believe they cooperate together like day to night. Well, the best way to find out is to go to inner journey with the help of creativity. You can’t just walk on your feet to the other side, so I got to the boat and began to float. I was expecting those scary dungeons and caves and all the demons, but throughout the journey peace and security flowed into my heart, it reminded me the feeling of returning home. At first, everything around seemed so misty and hazy, but the quiet movement of the boat was relaxing and that abstraction in surrounding didn’t cause panic. Still no moans and hellish laughter. Gradually the abstraction turned to plant motifs, soft light began to penetrate the horizon and the space began to expand. The boat was driven by curiosity and faith, suddenly out of the fog glowing silhouettes appeared – that feeling of returning home became even stronger, and the boat stopped. I sailed to the place where souls of ancestors is living, a flowing spring of memory nearby quietly whispered about the farthest relatives, their lives that has passed, and all the happiness found and lost. There is a hall where they light an eternal fire – it’s like a lighthouse whose light shine to us as a memory of roots, strength, it reminds us the presence of our ancestors, even when we are lonely. The boat started moving and it got into the moonlit horizon, the space was getting wider and wider. And here I am – standing by the painting, finishing the last area in the sky, and feeling different than before the journey, I feel returned home, carrying a particle of that fire in my heart.
