“God didn’t go to waters, nor did he dive there. He got off at an island, and only this island and the view of this whole dry land is the place of a real existence. The sea, the lagoon and the rivers are only the background of a real life – the environment, which frames our world. Island is a model of organisation, order and safety, and its’ surrounding waters represent chaos, dusk, devilry, and signs of death.” Excerpt from the book by G. Beresnevičius “Lithuanian religion and mythology”.
Precisely in this text I found an explanation to a question- why octopus is raising waves. It seems that waters are organising everything in our world – the bottom of the ocean rise and become islands, a God’s palm, on which cities and lives develop. While at the same time that which was above the water, goes down to the bottom into oblivion.
Both the whole cycle and the its’ providers are neither bad nor good. Everything serves for one purpose – so that the life mechanism, the circle of life, would continue spinning. You live a life and after that you become like a seed or soil for the next life.
While painting this work of art, I got into the act of love between earth and water, when flood water revives the earth and awakens life within it. It is that spring rain with thunder, after which trees burst into greenery. Ah… the spring is here!
